The Board of Jaiz Bank Plc has officially appointed Haruna Musa, a seasoned banker, as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the bank. The appointment, effective November 21, 2023, received approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Haruna Musa brings over 27 years of experience in the banking industry to his new role. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Bayero University, Kano, and Cranfield University, United Kingdom. Currently in the final stages of a Ph.D. program in Islamic Banking and Finance at Universiti Utara in Malaysia, Haruna’s educational background also includes an MSc. in Finance and Management from Cranfield University (2008-2009), an MBA from Bayero University, Kano (1997-1998), and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the same university (1994-1995). He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1987-1991).
Prior to his appointment at Jaiz Bank, Haruna Musa served as an executive director at GTBank for eight years and spent a total of 22 years at Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) from March 2001 to October 2023. During his tenure, he held the position of Executive Director & Head, Northeast & Public Sector, Abuja Divisions on the Board of GT Bank starting from October 2015. He was also a non-executive director at GTBank (Cote D’Ivoire Ltd) and chaired the Board Audit Committee from March 2015 to October 2023, contributing to the bank’s turnaround from a loss position to consistent profitability.
Haruna Musa’s notable achievements include receiving commendation letters for selflessness and meritorious service from his previous employers. He is also an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
His commitment to professional development is reflected in his participation in executive-level courses such as the Advanced Management Program from Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA (2023), Making Corporate Boards More Effective at Harvard Business School, Harvard University, USA (2015), Positive Leadership Program at Michigan Ross Executive Education, USA (2014), and the General Management Program at Cranfield University, UK (2012).
