Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s son, Olujonwo Obasanjo, has given his endorsement to former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, for the position of Senate President in the upcoming National Assembly. The younger Obasanjo, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also lent his support to Abbas Tajudeen’s candidacy for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. The National Working Committee of the APC nominated both Akpabio and Tajudeen for the positions, but some aspirants and their supporters have criticised the nominations due to the party’s zoning formula. However, Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima explained that the nominations were made to ensure religious balance in the political leadership of the country. Olujonwo Obasanjo urged federal lawmakers-elect to support the APC’s nominations, citing Akpabio’s loyalty to the party and President-elect Bola Tinubu. He also praised Tajudeen’s exceptional contribution to lawmaking and his ability to win the trust and support of his constituents.
