The Lagos State government informed the coroner investigating the death of Afrobeat singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, that the toxicology test on his body is being conducted in the United States. The disclosure was made by a Lagos State counsel, O. Akinde, who explained to Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi that the crucial aspect of the autopsy to determine the cause of the late music star’s death was being carried out by experts in the US. Akinde mentioned that the decision to conduct the toxicology test abroad was due to the nature of substances alleged to have been involved and to prevent controversy over the autopsy report. The coroner inquired about the choice to conduct the test abroad when Nigeria has toxicology laboratories, and Akinde explained that it was to ensure a comprehensive and unbiased report, especially since the case had gained global attention. The delay in the autopsy report has raised questions, with the coroner’s court seeking thorough and accurate information to determine the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
