President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart from Nigeria today to attend a global summit in Paris, France. The two-day summit, taking place from June 22 to 23, aims to address the financial challenges faced by vulnerable countries due to climate change, energy crises, and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The summit will prioritize supporting and investing in these countries, particularly those with high levels of debt and limited fiscal space.
The President’s participation in the summit reflects Nigeria’s commitment to finding innovative financing solutions for climate-vulnerable nations. The focus will be on fostering development in low-income countries, mobilizing funds for climate change mitigation, and promoting investments in green infrastructure to facilitate the transition to sustainable energy in emerging and developing economies.
President Tinubu, alongside other world leaders, multilateral institutions, financial experts, and economists, will engage in comprehensive discussions on economic recovery from the pandemic’s impact and the increasing prevalence of poverty. The summit aims to provide access to finance and investment opportunities that promote inclusive growth.
Hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France, the summit will take place at Palais Brongniart. The President will be accompanied by members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and senior government officials. He is expected to return to Abuja on Saturday after the conclusion of the summit.
