Tragedy struck on the Ijebu-Ode Road in Ogun State as three female adults lost their lives in multiple road crashes that occurred separately around 9 am and 12 pm on Wednesday. The accidents, disclosed by Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of the Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps, involved a total of 17 persons, with six sustaining injuries and eight escaping unhurt.
The first accident took place around the J4 Junction along the Ijebu-Ode Road, involving a collision between a Chevrolet car and a Bajaj motorcycle. The impact resulted in the death of one female adult, injuries to one other victim, and two persons escaping unhurt.
Shortly afterward, another accident occurred a few meters away from the first crash, involving a Toyota Sienna with registration number LSD315FU and a Honda Accord with registration number ENU04GO. This second crash, which had thirteen persons involved, led to the death of two female adults, injuries to five others, and six persons escaping unhurt.
The injured victims were promptly taken to Hope Clinic along the J4 Junction for medical attention, while the deceased bodies were deposited at the Ore General Hospital morgue.
Excessive speed was identified as a suspected cause of the accidents, prompting the Ogun Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, to emphasize the dangers associated with speeding. He urged motorists to prioritize safety, drive with caution, and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such tragic incidents.
