Honourable Abiola Peter Makinde, the representative for the Ondo East/West federal constituency in the National Assembly, has provided support to primary and secondary school students in the constituency by offering educational materials to enhance their academic performance.
At the 8th annual event for the provision of instructional materials to students in Ondo town, Honourable Makinde presented laptops, projectors, textbooks on various subjects, notebooks, chairs, and lockers.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Human Rights has consistently carried out this initiative for years, even before assuming his role in the federal House of Representatives.
Explaining the motivation behind this educational empowerment, Honourable Makinde, who recently received an honorary Doctorate Degree in Financial Management from Wesley University, Ondo, stated, “My wife and I, during our moments of respective struggles, received support at some point, which proved to be a turning point in our lives.
“It is part of the reasons we are determined to be pillars of support to others at this time, as we have been beneficiaries of such in the past.
“These students are our tomorrow. No prosperous nation casts kids away. Rather, they are built and made to go through comprehensive education so they can be useful to themselves and the nation in years to come.
“What we have done here at this annual provision of instructional materials to primary and secondary schools in my federal constituency is to contribute our quota immensely to the lives of these kids.
“This is also in furtherance of my campaign mantra, WEALTH, which stands for Water, Education, Agriculture, Light, Training, and Health,” he explained.
Beneficiaries of this initiative expressed gratitude to Honourable Makinde, promising to make judicious use of the items provided to them for the advancement of their academic pursuits. The event was attended by Dr Rhoda Makinde, the lawmaker’s wife and convener of the Dr Rhoda Makinde Initiative (DROMI), the Ondo State House of Assembly, the Ondo West 1 constituency, Honourable Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, APC political leaders, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), and educational stakeholders across the federal constituency.
