On Monday, the Lagos State Government dismissed an allegation by Labour Party candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, claiming that the state funded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s legal dispute after the March 18, 2023, election. The Commissioner of Information, Gbenga Omotoso, issued a statement stating that the allegation was untrue and an attempt to mislead the public.
Omotoso clarified that although a payment request was submitted, Governor Sanwo-Olu rejected it after the Attorney General identified irregularities. The commissioner urged those examining the state’s finances to base their inquiries on verified facts.
The statement emphasized that the transaction mentioned by Rhodes-Vivour did not occur, and the payment request was not approved by the governor due to irregularities. It concluded by affirming Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to upholding the Oath of Office and avoiding the misappropriation of public funds.
