Alhaji Sani Dada, Chairman of the Ala’amanat Bureau De Change in Kano, expressed his approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to suspend Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. According to Dada, this suspension is considered one of the best things to happen to the nation in recent times.
Dada’s sentiments reflect the views of many traders at the Kano Forex Market, commonly known as WAPA. They believe that Emefiele’s exit from the apex bank is a cause for celebration due to the hardships inflicted on Nigerians through the unpopular naira redesign policy.
The chairman stated that they had been patiently awaiting this historic day, and now Emefiele finds himself behind bars, awaiting intensive investigation into his alleged misconduct during his tenure as CBN governor.
“We were all jubilating when we heard about Mr. Godwin Emefiele’s suspension. Our people are delighted with the appointment of Folashodun Shonubi as the new acting CBN Governor. He is a man of integrity and competence, and we hope he will fulfill his duties diligently as the head of the CBN.”
Dada also took the opportunity to call on the new CBN governor to consider strategies for reviving Nigeria’s exchange rate, both in the black market and official rates, with the aim of establishing a uniform price across the board.
