Mr. Jack Smith, the Legal Attache of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Nigeria, has lauded the current management of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stating that they are moving in the right direction. Smith expressed his approval during his visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
He expressed satisfaction with the reform and refocusing agenda of the EFCC, emphasizing that these initiatives would advance the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate. Smith commended the efforts in rebranding and other positive initiatives, stating, “I welcome the direction you are taking the Commission.”
In addition, Smith praised the appointment of Ola Olukoyede as the executive chairman of the EFCC. He mentioned that he personally researched Olukoyede’s credentials and found them impressive, endorsing his suitability to lead the EFCC.
“I came to congratulate you on your appointment. I did my homework and research, and I discovered that your appointment is right,” Smith remarked.
In response, Olukoyede expressed appreciation for the visit, highlighting that the relationship between the FBI and Nigeria has a longstanding history predating the establishment of the EFCC.
