Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Emefiele, who was recently released from the Department of State Services’ detention, is being interrogated at the EFCC’s National Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. He was picked up by EFCC operatives shortly after regaining his freedom. The EFCC is investigating Emefiele over alleged financial impropriety during his tenure as the head of the central bank, and there are indications that fresh charges may be filed against him. The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, was not available for official confirmation at the time of reporting. Emefiele had been in DSS custody since June, following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu, and he subsequently resigned as CBN governor on September 22.
