Asake, the Nigerian singer also known as Ahmed Ololade, has addressed critics who have been critical of him for predominantly singing in the Yoruba language. He stated that singing in Yoruba is his personal choice, and that his language preference is important to him. Despite being warned that singing in a more widely understood language such as English would increase his chances of receiving international recognition, Asake remains committed to his style, following in the footsteps of his mentor Olamide. Like Olamide, Asake believes that music is all about spiritual connection and the ability to vibe to the rhythm. He also noted that language does not have to be a barrier to enjoying music, as many people can still enjoy it without understanding the lyrics.
