The NYSC management has distanced itself from Ukanwa Ikechukwu, a former corps member who was arraigned in court for allegedly defrauding a police officer of N235,000. In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the NYSC clarified that Ikechukwu completed his service in February 2023. The scheme also cautioned corps members that wearing the NYSC uniform does not grant immunity from criminal acts. The statement further explained that Ikechukwu had collected the money to purchase a physiotherapy machine for a woman at the police clinic where he served during his service year, but failed to deliver it. Despite the woman’s unsuccessful attempts to retrieve her money from Ikechukwu, he was charged to court for the criminal offense.
