The commissioning ceremony of Muhammad Kamalud-deen University (MKU), located in Oloje-Ogidi, Ilorin, is expected to be graced by dignitaries such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari. Other notable figures anticipated at the event include former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, the Iya Adini of Ansarul Islam Society.
Muhammad Kamalud-deen University, established by the Ansarul Society of Nigeria, received accreditation from the National University Commission (NUC) on June 9, 2023. The pro-chancellor, Prof. Shuaib AbdulRaheem, highlighted the university’s unique approach, combining spirituality with sociality to provide a holistic education for its students.
Speaking about the founder, Sheikh Muhammed Kamalud-deen Al-Adabiyy, Prof. AbdulRaheem praised his visionary leadership, particularly in integrating Western education into Arabic and Islamic schools. The university aims to honor his legacy by offering a comprehensive education that blends Arabic, Islamic, and Western knowledge.
AbdulRaheem emphasized Sheikh Kamalud-deen’s impact on education, modernizing Arabic education in Nigeria and introducing innovations like blackboards, tables, and chairs. The establishment of Muhammad Kamalud-deen University marks the fulfillment of Sheikh Kamalud-deen’s vision for a university, building on the foundation of over 200 primary schools, 70 government-aided secondary schools, and numerous traditional Islamic schools.
Following a resource verification exercise on October 2, 2023, the university received approval to commence 15 programs for the 2023/2024 academic session. The commissioning ceremony is expected to be a significant milestone in the university’s journey, with the presence of eminent personalities and leaders from various fields.
