
During the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, it was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, that the federal government has purchased 40 buses worth $1.2 million to evacuate Nigerians who are attempting to flee war-torn Sudan. Onyeama added that during the 72-hour ceasefire agreement, women, children and diplomats will be given priority in the evacuation exercise. The minister also stated that discussions with the Sudanese government have been concluded. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, confirmed that the first set of Nigerians are currently being transported through Egypt by buses before being airlifted back to Nigeria, while some Nigerians have already been moved to Saudi Arabia before returning to the country.
