Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State inaugurated the Leonardo AW 109 Level 5 Simulator at Caverton Helicopters Aviation Training Centre in Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Thursday.
Commending Caverton’s founder and chairman, Aderemi Makanjuola, and the management for their contributions to job creation in Nigeria, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Makanjuola’s audacity and dedication to the business. He praised Caverton for investing in facilities like the new simulator, emphasizing the prevention of capital flight as all training can now be conducted locally.
The governor expressed delight at the unveiling of the state-of-the-art simulator, the Leonardo AW109, describing it as second to none in comparison to foreign simulators. He highlighted the significance of the innovation in attracting skills, military and commercial operators, and increasing the training capacity within the country.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged industry stakeholders to support and rally behind such investments, ensuring that necessary training no longer requires going abroad. He appreciated Caverton for its safety standards and management at every level.
Caverton’s Chief Executive Officer, Olabode Makanjuola, explained that the AW109 simulator launch is a milestone in advancing aviation training in Nigeria. He emphasized the commitment to enhancing pilots’ capabilities and maintaining high standards of safety and proficiency in aviation operations.
Makanjuola noted the AW109 helicopter’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s aerospace and the simulator’s contribution to bolstering pilot competence. He outlined Caverton’s dedication to fostering excellence and innovation within the Nigerian aviation industry.
Other dignitaries at the event included Lagos Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogala (represented by Rear Admiral Bolaji Orederu), and Chairman of Caverton Offshore Support Group, Aderemi Makanjuola. Aderemi Makanjuola announced the upcoming launch of a third simulator, expressing gratitude to the Nigerian government for creating an enabling environment for the company’s success.
