Bola Tinubu, the President-elect of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly instructed his aides, visitors, and social media handlers to only use approved mobile phones in France to avoid disclosing the severity of his illness. Tinubu had travelled to Europe in March after the governorship and State Assembly elections to receive medical treatment for an illness that arose from the “hectic” electioneering and tension surrounding his emergence as President-elect. While his spokesperson confirmed that Tinubu was in Paris and London to rest and plan his transition program before traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah and Ramadan fasting, a source informed SaharaReporters that he was still receiving medical attention from doctors in Paris.
The former Lagos State governor has allegedly prohibited the use of non-approved phones by his inner circle due to concerns about leaks to the media. These actions have raised concerns about Tinubu’s health ahead of his May 29 inauguration. SaharaReporters had previously reported that Tinubu had spent more than four months undergoing surgeries in France, the United States, and the United Kingdom between 2020 and 2022.
