According to Sunday PUNCH, the National Chapel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a one-week period of fasting and prayer for their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The purpose of this spiritual activity is to seek victory for Atiku at the ongoing Presidential Election Tribunal. The fast is set to begin on Thursday, May 18 and end on Wednesday, May 24. Additionally, an open-air thanksgiving service is scheduled for May 25, which will be held at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, at 12 pm each day.
The Presidential Election Petition Court had previously adjourned Atiku’s case to May 18 for the continuation of the pre-hearing of the petition against the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress. The PDP and Atiku are contesting the declaration of Tinubu as the president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The Independent National Electoral Commission, Tinubu, and the APC were named as the first to third respondents in the petition.
The Chairman of the PDP Christian Religious Body, Presidential Campaign Council, Boni Haruna, declared the seven-day fast, named “At the Supreme Court of Heaven with Chief Justice of Universe.” The aim of the prayer is to “denounce the Independent National Electoral Commission’s president-select and rescue and recover PDP for Nigeria.” The verses of Romans 8: 33, Psalms 84: 10-11, Proverbs 24: 25-26; 9: 7-8 will be used during the spiritual exercise.
