During the 2023 Haski Hiyu lecture series organized by the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, Kaduna State, the Ooni called for traditional rulers to be given specific constitutional roles in combating internal security challenges. The guest speaker, the Ooni, delivered a lecture on the theme “Combating Internal Security Challenges through Effective Utilisation of Traditional Institution,” where he stressed that assigning roles to traditional rulers would aid in addressing the lingering insecurity in the country. The event was attended by senior military officers from various units and formations across the country. The annual exercise aims to strengthen collaboration between civil-military and paramilitary organizations to tackle emerging security threats. The Ooni highlighted that the traditional institution’s closeness to the people makes them crucial in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other related crimes. He suggested enshrining traditional rulers’ roles in the constitution to tackle insecurity, a proposal that the Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Air Vice Marshal Emmanuel Wunoh, agreed with.
