NSCDC arrests three fake currency notes merchants in Zamfara
In Zamfara State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three individuals involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit Nigerian naira and US dollars. The suspects, aged between 28 and 29 years old, confessed to importing the fake currency from Kano State and circulating it among unsuspecting members of the public in Zamfara State. The NSCDC arrested the suspects in Gusau after a tricycle operator alerted them that he had been paid with a fake one-thousand-naira note. Preliminary investigations by the NSCDC revealed that one of the suspects, Kamallu Sani, had been involved in the counterfeit currency business for a year, having been introduced to it by Ado Gurugu. Kamallu also admitted that Mu’azu Abdulkarim was his supplier and that each fake one-thousand-naira note cost him six hundred naira. The NSCDC found a large quantity of fake currency notes totaling sixty thousand naira and two thousand six hundred US dollars in the suspects’ possession. The NSCDC has warned the public to be vigilant against counterfeit currency traders, and has promised to apprehend and prosecute anyone caught in the act.
