The Rivers State Police Command has requested the man who was brutally assaulted by a policeman attached to the command in the middle of a road to get in touch with the public relations officer of the state command or visit the command headquarters.
Earlier, SaharaReporters had published a report that a video had surfaced on the internet showing a policeman brutally assaulting a man in the middle of a road. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at Emouha Junction, East/West Road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The officer and his colleagues were not in approved uniforms but were armed.
The video showed one of the officers assaulting the man with a stick before repeatedly slapping him and forcing him to enter a vehicle. In another viral video, another officer was seen forcefully pushing other passengers to their car and cocking his gun.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that she had seen the video but was yet to verify if the incident really occurred at Emouha. She also mentioned that there was no official report, and that she had sent the video to their platform for the officers to be identified. She requested that the victim or victims come to the office and see her to provide more facts and details.
Subsequently, the Police Command took to their Twitter handle to call on the victim in the video to get in touch with the Rivers State Police PRO or visit the police headquarters on Moscow Road for prompt disciplinary measures.
