In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Reuben Muoka, denied allegations that the commission “tracks” and “leaks” telephone conversations of individuals. Muoka pointed out that according to the provisions of the Nigerian Communication Act (NCA) 2003 and other relevant laws of the federation, the NCC does not have the power to engage in such activities. The NCC has reported the allegations to the relevant security agencies for further investigation and necessary action. Muoka reiterated the NCC’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities to the Nigerian people in compliance with the Nigerian Constitution, the NCA 2003, other laws of the federation, and global best practices.
