The Oriuzor Youths Vanguard for Good Governance in Ebonyi State is urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly announce a timetable for rerun elections in various vacant senatorial and House of Representatives positions nationwide.
Expressing concern, the group’s national president, Mr. Igiri Innocent, highlighted the prolonged vacancy in the Ebonyi South senatorial position after the Court of Appeal ruled on the National Assembly election. He described the absence of representation for the zone as a form of marginalization, emphasizing that the rights, benefits, and privileges enjoyed by other senatorial zones in the state have eluded the people of Ebonyi South.
Mr. Innocent questioned the delay in organizing a fresh election for the Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, especially given the Appeal Court’s judgment declaring the current Minister of Works as the authentic winner of the seat three months ago.
He expressed dismay at the negative impression created in the zone and emphasized the need for proper representation in the Nigerian Senate. The group has taken proactive measures, writing to various authorities seeking clarification and exploring potential actions, including legal recourse if INEC continues to delay the rerun election.
Mr. Innocent called on INEC to release a comprehensive timetable for rerun elections not only in Ebonyi South senatorial zone but also in other zones and constituencies nationwide. This, he emphasized, would ensure equal rights for all citizens across the federation.
