Yesterday, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party (LP) suspended six national officers, including Acting National Chairman Lamidi Apapa, for alleged anti-party activities. The NEC also upheld the decision of the Akure convention, which expelled National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi, and passed a vote of confidence on the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. The LP said that the NEC meeting was attended by state chairmen, state secretaries, presidential candidate Peter Obi, National Assembly members-elect, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). Arabambi, who was suspended earlier, accused Obi of “ethnic cleansing” and declared war on him.
