A medical doctor, Ayodele Joseph, was paraded by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama, on Friday, for allegedly sedating and raping a nurse while performing an operation on her at his hospital in Ilorin, Kwara State. Joseph, who is the Chief Medical Director of Ayodele Hospital, Sawmill, Ilorin, was among 13 suspects paraded at the police headquarters. The victim reported to the police on May 5, 2023, that while she was at the hospital for surgery, Dr Ayodele Joseph sedated her, leading to her becoming unconscious. After the surgery, she woke up naked and found out from a recorded video that Dr Ayodele Joseph had sexual intercourse with her while she was under sedation. Investigation led to the recovery of the video recording, which was corroborated by the medical examination conducted on the victim. The police have contacted the Nigeria Medical Association on the case, and the doctor will be charged with rape at the conclusion of the ongoing investigation. However, Joseph denied the allegation, claiming that the nurse was his girlfriend, and she set him up to extort money from him. He further stated that they have been dating for eight years, and he trained her as a nurse and sponsored her to a school of nursing in Lagos.
