Jumia Food, the food delivery arm of e-commerce company Jumia Technologies, has announced its decision to cease operations in Nigeria and six other countries by the end of the year. The move is part of Jumia’s strategy to focus on growing its core online retail business and optimize capital and resource allocation to achieve profitability. Jumia Technologies reported a 67% reduction in losses in its third-quarter results, attributed to cost-saving initiatives. The decision to close Jumia Food aligns with the company’s effort to address challenging economics and increase competitiveness in the market. The food delivery service currently operates in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Ivory Coast. Some employees from the food delivery business will transition to the core e-commerce business in these countries.
