
On Friday morning, gunmen broke into the residence of Professor Onje Gye-Wado in Gwagi village of Wamba Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, abducting him from his home. The abduction has been confirmed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the State Police Public Relations officer, in a press release. The police have initiated a search operation, collaborating with other security personnel to rescue the victim unharmed.
In a statement released by the police, it was stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba, has reassured the general public, especially the family of Prof Onje Gye-wado, that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim. The police tactical operatives have intensified their search and rescue operation.
The police received information that unknown gunmen invaded Gwagi village in Wamba LGA, broke into the residence of Professor Onje Gye-wado, and abducted him at about 12:30 am on April 7, 2023. Upon receipt of the information, police operatives attached to Wamba Division swiftly moved to the scene, but the hoodlums had fled with the victim before their arrival.
The Commissioner of Police has mobilized and deployed reinforcement, including police tactical teams, military, vigilantes, and local hunters, to complement the ongoing search operation and rescue the hostage safely while arresting the perpetrators of the act.
