On Saturday, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and Kaduna Governor, Malam Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai, unveiled the new Shongo Gardens Layout and broke ground for the construction of 550 housing units to provide affordable housing for Gombe State residents. Governor Yahaya noted that the state’s population has grown exponentially due to urbanization and the influx of Internally Displaced Persons, which has put more pressure on existing social amenities and increased the demand for housing and other services. To address this challenge, his administration established Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) and transformed the Gombe State Development Board into Gombe State Urban Planning Development Authority (GOSUPDA) to provide affordable and quality housing to the people. The event marked the commencement of a massive infrastructural development phase in the state and the realization of the Special Development Zone Project to create a new and modern Gombe. Governor Yahaya warned against any acts of sabotage, distortion, or encroachment in the new layout, calling on all relevant authorities to comply with development control regulations. When completed, the housing project will provide housing opportunities to hundreds of civil servants and residents of the state. Kaduna Governor El-Rufai commended the people of Gombe State for electing Governor Inuwa Yahaya, whom he described as a performing governor, and praised his foresight in planning for the present and the future to provide a conducive environment for the growing population and attract investors.
