Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, was deeply saddened by the tragic news of the passing of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife Chizoba, his son, and others in a helicopter crash near the Nevada border in California, United States. Dr. Wigwe was a native of Rivers State.
Governor Fubara expressed his shock, labeling the incident a “monumental disaster” and stating that both Rivers State and Nigeria were overwhelmed with grief. His sentiments were conveyed in a statement released on Sunday by his media aide, Boniface Onyedi.
On behalf of his family, the state government, and the people of Rivers State, Governor Fubara extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Wigwe family. He encouraged them to find solace in God’s love during this difficult time.
Governor Fubara emphasized the enormity of the loss, describing Dr. Wigwe as an unassuming, iconic, and accomplished figure from Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. He lamented that both the state and the nation would greatly miss Dr. Wigwe, who was not only a prominent banker and philanthropist but also a driving force behind the Wigwe University.
Governor Fubara pledged that the legacy of the Wigwe University, established by the deceased, would be preserved and honored, ensuring that his contributions to the education sector would endure.
