Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, was interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of money laundering and misappropriation of N4 billion. According to a source within the anti-graft agency, Fayemi arrived at the EFCC facility in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, at around 10 a.m. yesterday and was questioned by EFCC operatives.
The investigation is linked to the alleged mishandling of funds during Fayemi’s tenure as the governor of Ekiti State from 2018 to 2022. The EFCC had previously sent a letter dated May 12 inviting the former governor to appear at their office in Kwara State on May 18 for an interview regarding the allegations.
In response to the invitation, Fayemi’s lawyer, Adeola Omotunde, sent a letter on May 15 stating that the former governor was involved in organizing an event and reviewing a book in honor of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The EFCC reportedly approved the request to delay the interview but took action immediately after the presidential swearing-in.
The EFCC’s interrogation of Kayode Fayemi is part of their ongoing efforts to address financial misconduct and ensure accountability in public office.
