
Davido, the Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, has made a return to the music scene with his fourth album, ‘Timeless’, after a short break due to the death of his 3-year-old son Ifeanyi. In an interview, Davido explained that the album title speaks for itself, and he felt transported to another dimension while creating it.
Since its release, ‘Timeless’ has broken multiple records on various music streaming platforms. It has become the largest African album in Apple Music history with the most simultaneous African songs on Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100, reaching Number Two on Apple Music’s US Albums chart, and breaking the record for the African album with the most simultaneous Number One entries on Apple Music’s albums chart. Similarly, Audiomack reported that ‘Timeless’ received over 12 million streams within the first 24 hours of its release, which is more than any other album on the platform ever.
Davido’s ‘Timeless’ also broke the record for the biggest first-day stream on Spotify’s Nigerian platform, with 4.91 million streams on its first day, surpassing Burna Boy’s ‘Love, Damini.’ Additionally, the album garnered 7.25 million streams on its opening day on Boomplay, surpassing Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” at 3.38 million streams.
Davido spoke about some of the songs on the album, highlighting “Away” as a classic Davido sound and “No Competition” and “BOP” as collaborations with Asake and Dexter Daps, respectively. He praised the production of “No Competition” by 1da Banton and described “BOP” as a song that will be loved by women.
