The attempt by the notorious cult leader, Gift David, widely known as 2Baba, to distance himself from the brutal killing of the Ahoada East Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP. Bako Angbasim, has stirred anger in Rivers State. SP Bako was brutally killed on September 8, 2023, during an operation in the Odiemude community in Ahoada East LGA. His killers, members of the Icelander cult group, decapitated and dismembered his body, sharing a gruesome video.
Approximately 50 individuals, including a monarch and former LGA chairman, were arrested and charged in connection with the murder. Despite the police’s efforts, the recovery of Bako’s remains remains elusive. 2Baba, declared wanted and with a N100 million bounty on his head, released a voice note asserting his innocence in Bako’s murder.
2Baba claimed he once accepted amnesty but returned to cultism due to attacks on his group by a rival cult. He stated he spoke with Bako on the fateful day but did not disclose the conversation’s content. The claim sparked anger, particularly among Ahoada East youths, who urged the public to dismiss it.
Hector Igageta, the Public Relations Officer of Igbu Akoh Youth Congress, reiterated accusations against 2Baba, branding him a notorious kidnapper and cultist. Igageta called on 2Baba to present himself to the police and provide information about Bako’s death and other related crimes.
The Rivers State Police command acknowledged 2Baba’s denial and emphasized the importance of a fair hearing for all parties involved. While committed to due process, the police urged 2Baba to present himself to the authorities, allowing him the chance to defend his claims of innocence and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
