In preparation for the 2023 Carnival Calabar, the Cross River State government has initiated the training of 20,000 security personnel tasked with safeguarding tourists during the festival scheduled for December 28, 2023.
The Managing Director of the Cross River State Tourism Bureau, Ekpeyong Ojoi, made this announcement in Calabar during the launch of the security personnel training.
Ojoi emphasized that the trained security personnel possess the necessary skills to ensure the safety of visitors attending the carnival. The participants in the training include personnel from various security agencies such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Civil Defence, Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), Road Safety, Immigration, Customs, and private security organizations.
“The essence of this training is to restore Cross River State to its world-class destination status. The security personnel serve as our first gatekeepers, interacting with our visitors. We want to ensure that they welcome our visitors with a smile and perform their duties with love and professionalism,” stated Ojoi.
He further explained that the training is aimed at fostering a police-friendly environment in Cross River. Ojoi emphasized that when the police and other security agencies approach problem-solving on the road with love, it contributes to attracting more people to visit Cross River State.
