On Sunday, human rights lawyer Femi Falana confirmed that he was representing Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti after the singer was caught on video assaulting a police officer. Falana stated that Kuti had evidence to defend himself and that he would turn himself in to the police on Monday. Falana had previously represented Kuti’s father, Fela, during his activism against the Nigerian government in 1993. On Saturday, a viral video emerged showing Kuti assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, leading to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, ordering his arrest and a full investigation into the incident. Kuti alleged that the officer had attempted to murder him and his family, and that the officer had apologized for his actions. Kuti said he would cooperate with the investigation and hoped that whoever was wrong would be indicted
